Hard feelings, ideas, thoughts and objects rendered soft. How do we use materials to soften feelings that want to be felt? How do we make fun of realities that taunt and haunt us? What do we make soft so it can hit hard? From woven tapestries of ocean garbage to quilted scenes of trans injustice, this group show brings together 10 artists who explore hard stuff in soft ways.
Featuring: Ben Aqua, Kendra Bergman, Beth Schindler, Michelle Devereux, Grayson Hunt, Jessica Gritton, Carly Ostler, Jasmine Amazing, Bella Maria Varela, and Ian Gerson
Exhibition will be open from September 9 - October 14, 2023
Everyone is cordially invited to Hotbox 2023 resident Jamie Lerman’s Close Encounter public programming: a Book Sharing from 6-8pm and Shabbat Potluck Dinner from 8-10pm.
The end of the week is a time to celebrate rest with togetherness. We welcome guests to pass and hold books, dishes, cups, food, and community on this wonderful Friday eve.
To participate in the event, we ask that you bring a favored dish and cup for yourself, and a dish of food. All meal sizes and styles are welcome. For the Book Sharing, we invite you to peruse a curated selection of artbooks and printed matter from the collections of @timebeingbooks. As an option in your participation, we’d love for you to bring your own book––that acts as a personal talisman in your home or creative space. Together our collection will be displayed for gentle review among the space.
MASS was founded 16 YEARS AGO in 2006 in the former auto body shop at the Blue Theater complex by a group of UT MFA grads. We are and have always been a collective of artists and art enthusiasts, and in order to continue our work in Austin, we are asking our community to support us in our goal of raising $30,000 by June 10th! This event included an expansive auction of artworks from our wonderful community in addition to performances and libations (see images here).
The funds we raise will go towards paying our rent for the next 6 months, allowing us to continue to operate in our space, and enabling us to carry out our mission of creating a site for creative and social action in collaboration with artists and organizations from and for the LGBTQIA+ community.
BEHOLD, a Rock n Gem show awaits you*~~~Check out this LUXURIOUS addition in our small gallery space as part of our Sweet 16 Birthday Bash. June 10th, 6-10 PM! Collectors far and wide will be astounded at the exquisite rocks and gems we have for purchase, both natural and manmade. Collectors, rock hounds, and gemologists- run, don't walk! From the stone age to the new age, we've got you covered.
All funds raised from the Rock N Gem show will go directly towards our fundraising goal. The money we raise will pay for our rent and allow us to keep our programming going.

This cinema-direct documentary from French New Wave pioneer Agnes Varda finds the legendary director touring the neighborhood that surrounds her home of over 50 years: the Rue Daguerre in Paris's 14th arrondissement. As she canvasses the shops and shopkeepers populating the area, an image emerges of a subculture and way of life that have since grown nearly extinct.
