MASS X Cobertizo "Ni de aquí ni de allá" 2025 Artist Residency and Exhibition Program
MASS is excited to announce the opening of a new artist residency program—Ni de aquí ni de allá. This inaugural 2025 residency is a transnational art initiative developed through a collaborative partnership between MASS Gallery in Austin, Texas, and Cobertizo Art Residency in Jilotepec, State of Mexico. In English, Ni de aquí ni de allá translates to neither from here nor from there—a phrase that speaks to the experience of existing in liminal spaces, and navigating the fluidity of borders and boundaries. The program bridges artistic communities, fostering dialogue and creative exchange among artists exploring the complex interconnections between these territories.
This residency builds upon our Hotbox Residency, now in its 13th year. Typically, Hotbox is a local program supporting an individual artist or artist group in Austin, providing time and space for creative exploration. However, for this iteration, we are collaborating with Cobertizo Art Residency to expand the program across borders, creating new opportunities for artistic exchange between Texas and Mexico.
Through a binational open call, the program will select eight artists—four from Texas and four from Mexico—to participate. Selected artists will complete a four-week residency at Cobertizo in July, followed by a collective exhibition at MASS Gallery in Austin, Texas, in August.
Open Call & Selection Process
Artists interested in applying for "Ni de aquí ni de allá" may submit their applications during the open call period from April 5 - May 5 at https://cobertizo.com.mx/residencyprograms. A curatorial team composed of art professionals from both Texas and Mexico will review applications, selecting the eight participants based on the strength of their work and alignment with the program's vision. Selected artists will be notified by June 1st to allow ample time for travel arrangements.
A curatorial team composed of professionals from both Texas and Mexico will oversee the selection process and collaborate with the artists to determine which works will be featured in the final exhibition. Selected artists will be notified by June 1st to allow sufficient time for travel arrangements.
