Hotbox Residency: Summer 2026

Seeking a summer artist studio for a month? Hotbox is a collaborative two-person studio share program at the main gallery space at MASS taking place from July 18—August 15, 2026. We are seeking two individual artists. You may apply either as an individual who is curious to work with another artist through a curated pairing by MASS or via a proposal to work as an artist duo.

What will MASS provide?

Two selected artists will be offered the gallery space to share from July 18—August 15, 2026. MASS’s main gallery space is furnished with track lighting, air conditioning, a chair and work table, wireless internet, a ladder, and basic installation tools. Residents may be able to utilize MASS’s surrounding outdoor space for planned installations, performances, or production. MASS offers no production workshops of any kind but, in some cases, we can assist in finding available options to satisfy specific project needs.

A $500 honorarium will be awarded to each chosen artist to support their residency and to fund a public presentation at the end of the program. Each resident will be financially responsible for transportation costs to and from Austin as well as for housing, living expenses, local transportation, production costs, and any additional materials.

Who is eligible?

The Hotbox residency program is open to Austin-based artists working in any medium and at any stage in their career.

How to apply?

We are looking specifically for kinship and chemistry between artists’ practices and will aim to pick a pair of artists based on the potential of exciting creative partnerships. We welcome applications as artist duos, but we will not privilege artist duo applications over a curated pair of individual submissions. MASS will review all applications as a collective.

  • CV

  • Up to 10 images, videos, or media files

  • Artist Statement

  • Statement of Intent addressing why the artist is interested in the Hotbox residency program, what they plan to do, how the residency will support their practice
