During EAST, Andrew Hulett will be performing a live manipulation of his piece, Sounding Objects, an ever-shifting sound installation utilizing six channels of audio that terminate in uncommon objects that act as speakers.
These objects include PVC pipe, sheets of metal, and a 5-gallon bucket, which are placed around the center of the gallery encouraging listeners to walk among them and explore their sonic qualities.
Andrew will be improvising with the use of precomposed textures while responding to each channel’s unique properties and the changing nature of the space itself as time and people (and hopefully dogs) move throughout the installation.
Unique performances will begin on the hour every hour from noon-6:00pm on Nov 17th. All are welcome to come and go as they please throughout performances.
About Close Encounters
With each exhibition, MASS solicits artists to devise a program designed to provide new methods of engaging the public’s curiosity, inviting them to participate intellectually or physically with the exhibition space, as well as the artist’s work and concepts. Open and broad, this prompt can be approached in a multitude of ways: performance based, passive, or completely radical in execution or thought, and is designed to provide a new way of encountering and understanding the creative process.
