Buoyant

New paintings from
Shaun Haugen

July 17th through August 7th, 2021

Opening Reception: Saturday, July 17, 7-9pm

MASS' latest exhibition, Buoyant, showcases a body of work by Shaun Haugen that was made during the height of the pandemic. This series of paintings captures a fluid society that can change, adapt, and alter from what is thought of as the normal conventions of society. The act of lockdowns and widely enforced rules created a mix of emotions as we moved in and out of this new and seemingly bizarre reality.

Life can seemingly flux at any moment, especially when responding to earth changing events such as the coronavirus or other precarious situations. Staying afloat has been a struggle, and at times we sunk deep.

Shaun Haugen was born in Austin, TX (1986). He is a summa cum laude graduate of Texas State University majoring in Studio Art with a minor in English Writing.  He has also studied and conducted research at the experimental School of the Alternative in Black Mountain, NC.  He has exhibited in NYC, London, Washington, D.C., North Carolina, Oklahoma, and throughout Texas and his art and writing have been published in multiple literary journals.  He has been accepted to Pratt Institute for an MFA in Painting and Drawing and will enroll in Fall 2021.
